She has spent more than a decade researching dog aggression. 10 years ago Jackie founded K9aggression.com and it’s online support group for dog owners struggling with dog aggression. She has been an affiliate member with the Animal Behavior Society and a supporting member the IAABC (International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants) and continues to stay up to date on research.

Sadly we have all lived with an aggressive dog at some point in our life.
Also sadly we did not have this book to learn to deal with it.

The book takes you through the various stages of aggression as to why it happens and some common sense methods of dealing with it from behaviour modification to teach the dog to relax and briefly touches on medication, walks you through the denial process, (finding excuses for the behaviour), training exercises, keeping motivation

We ruled out medical issues quickly. The dog then turned on us. We briefly considered punishment for this ultimate transgression but knew from our trainer, that this was very dangerous. The book even walks you through seeking a professional and what to avoid.

In short this book is the Bible of dog aggression, what you can do and what is expected of you by society. how to minimize exposure and how to deal with your dog's aggressive issues

This book is a MUST HAVE if you own a reactive dog. I think all SPCA, and rescue organizations should have this book available to all adopters as part of the adoption fee. Every long time dog owner has had experience with anxious, reactive dogs...this book is an important tool to understand and learn how to deal with this humanely.

It will help you reduce your own stress too!

I wish I could have had this book to hand out to the owners of the aggressive dogs I've met who seem to have no clue on how to deal with their aggressive dogs. It might have saved me countless vet bills and trauma to my own dog who is now blind in one eye due to an unexpected attack by an aggressive dog. I would recommend this book for every dog owner regardless if your dog is aggressive or not. It helps you recognize subtle signs of stress and aggressive arousal through body language and behaviour. The book leads you through steps to help improve aggressive behaviour and prevent aggression before it even starts. I've used suggestions from the book to help reduce my dog's nervous behaviour towards strangers who come to the door.
Definitely worth the investment! It will help you reduce your own stress too!

About the Author

MICHAEL REED GACH, Ph.D., is the founder and director of the Acupressure Institute in Berkeley, California. The Acupressure Institute, established in 1976, offers classes as well as a state approved Acupressure Training Program. Michael has taught acupressure and yoga for more than thirty years. He developed Acu-Yoga, a practical method for relieving tension and achieving greater health and happiness. Michael conducts classes and seminars both in the U.S. and abroad. He is currently teaching acupressure and stress reduction workshops throughout the San Francisco Bay Aria in schools, hospitals, colleges, corporations, and governmental agencies.

Great Book! I have given copies to family members

Great Book! I have given copies to family members, too. Doing these exercises daily has eliminated anxiety and kept me feeling strong and clear headed! I would recommend this for anyone who wants to improve their life and will do 15-30 minutes of exercises a day to do so!

Acu Yoga is a wonderful self help book. It has various flows of AcuYoga to keep you tuned up. You can also pick and choose from the many offererings. The index is very useful to look up a certain health issue and find easy to use help.

You can use the book as stand alone guidance for movement or integrate it into a yoga or other practice, or as self help as needed. I found this book because my yoga teacher liked to use it to mix things into the class that were of help to certain health issues.

Illustrations are very clearly done black & white photos, with good verbal descriptions

My boyfriend (and BEST friend) committed suicide 15 years ago. I am deeply affected by it still. I read "To Say Goodbye," and was highly intrigued by the way she chose to present it in HIS voice, with his thoughts and feelings. I wasn't left with a journal to tell me what Russ was going through or thinking. I knew some, but he told me once that I could never understand the darkness he endured at times. Donna's book was healing and helpful to me, and aided my understanding. I have no doubt she did not write it just to make a buck, but to assist others who are caught in similar situations to see a bit of the other side. Sadly, my sister's stepson also committed suicide the day after I read Donna's book. Suicide is a tragedy, and we all need to educate ourselves and pray for the discernment to recognize those who struggle. Two thumbs up, Donna!

touching and honest

I appreciate Dr. Weighill putting a very personal experience out there. I suspect that those who suffer a suicide death of someone close feel alone and maybe isolated. The rumors, the judgements, and the guilt of wondering what could have been done must be overwhelming. In publishing this book Dr. Weighill is showing folks that they are not alone. Their sorrow and heartache are not unknown to others. Sometimes knowing that others have been on the same journey and have made it through their pain helps us know there is hope and light. It will come.

I was so moved by the insightful and intelligent approach by Dr. Weighill in To Say Goodbye. She allowed for the most intimate of details in her life to be shared, both good and bad, without it being gratuitous or self serving. Simply, it was beautiful and touching on so many levels. An Excellent Introduction

Romaine provides an excellent introduction to the field of bilingualism. Of the texts I have read on the topic, this is perhaps the one that finds the best balance between readability and comprehensiveness. She covers the main subfields of bilingualism, and discusses numerous studies in the field. If you're just getting into the field, this will serve as a great guide, and you'll be able to find some great resources which you'll then be able to pursue independently. I strongly recommend this as the first book to read on bilingualism. After you read this, then you can move on to more advanced texts.

Bought for a class, but enjoyed materials covered in book

I had to buy this for my FLA 499 Bilingualism and Languages in Contact class at ASU. There is a lot of material covered in the book by the author, but it's very informative and gives good references for further research on bilingualism/linguistics. Glad the professor picked this book--I still reference it for research/sources in my other linguistics classes.

I am not an artist and I have no idea with zen drawing but I was curious with this book and read it. I have learned a lot from this book and I know I can share it with my daughter which is an artist.

There are many types of drawing and shading explained which at first looks difficult but later it is really easy to perform

“Art take on many forms.” This book simply contains the various forms of sketching and doodle patterns in a very convincing manner. There are many types of drawing and shading explained which at first looks difficult but later it is really easy to perform. Although this book does not contain everything about drawing related to sketches and doodle patterns but for the beginners, they worth it. Some of the topics related to curves, zen doodle on fabric are really interesting. One more thing to note down is this sketch and doodles are not only art proven but also helpful in hospitals and health care centers. There are many points listed in the book relating to the patterns which can be useful and easy to learn.

Drawing - Doodling - Zen Doodling Guide

I didn't understand what my big sister was doing all these years. In my mind she was just "scrabbling" or I should say "Doodling". But really and truly she had a set pattern and structure to how she was drawing and this book made me understand the difference. Doodling: is a random design. It has no rules. You simply draw down shapes and then fill them in with anything that you heart desires. Thus doodling is freeform. While Zen Doodling: are lines drawn to create the original strings or main lines that form a pattern. Then into each area of the pattern, different patterns are introduced which are structured and very organized. This is what makes the difference and it is an important difference because the discipline that is introduced with Zen doodle is what makes it so concentrated and therapeutic. Great guide I must say.
