Heart Warming Gem.
By Sinfully
The Winter Spirit by Indra Vaughn is a sweet holiday M/M romance guaranteed to put anyone in the Christmas spirit. This book is a heart-warming gem about a bed and breakfast owner who has put love on the back-burner and a matchmaking ghost.
Nathaniel O’Donnelly took over his uncle’s B & B upon his death twelve years ago. Since then he has turned the dilapidated business into a success. Nate may not have anyone to share his life and work with; however, he is happy living a quiet life and running a business that he loves. If only he could figure out how to deal with Gabriel Wickfield, a ghost who has been successfully haunting his B & B even before Nate took over. Gabriel makes it a point to ensure that Nate does not forget that he exists as he tries assist Nate in matters of the heart. Gabriel wants to see Nate fall in love even the path is a little too straight for Nate’s liking.
I won’t go into any further details when it comes to the overall story arc as it would simply give too much away. I will say that what you get is two very endearing protagonists and a sweet, fun and light-hearted love story that will leave you happily sighing and clutching your heart. Definitely a book to read curled up by a fire with a hot cocoa or a nice glass of wine. My only complaint is that I wanted more. LOL! I guess that’s just me being selfish! ;)

This was an amazing holiday story and I WILL be re-reading again shortly. Any plans for an audio version?????
My review for this one will be a bit odd because I want it to be clear that the thing I loved most about this story was the author’s ability to keep me guessing and the reactions she was able to pull from me. I am going to take you through my journey of reactions to this story. Here we go!
”OK….this Blurb doesn’t tell me much but it seems like this will be a cute story possibly about a matchmaking ghost”
“Oh, YAY, I love a good second chance love story. I just hope this doesn’t turn into an insta reunion with no development”
“Oh a prankster ghost! This could be fun”
“Wait, something isn’t right here”
“OK something really isn’t right here. Oh, maybe I was wrong and this is not a second chance love story”
“Ohhhhhh YES! I like this love story better!!!! But how will it work?”
“Oh I get it now! All right! I am loving this ghost story!”
“Oh gooey, loving, wonderful, romance, getting to know each other, yay I can feel this love and it is fantastic! I want more”
“Oh wait no, that’s not supposed to happen. Nonononononono what?!?! How could you?”
tears of sorrow over the outcome
“I guess I was right all along and it was a second chance love story, but you better make this redemption believable because I am PISSED at you right now Ms. Vaughn”
“What, wait, what? Oh please please please please….YES!!!! I love you Ms. Vaughn I take back the anger!”
“Yay, warm fuzzy happy tears and this is the best story I’ve read in awhile!”
collapses in an exhausted, gooey mushy heap
So there you have it. I LOVED this story. It was well written, well executed, and well worth the time to read. Pick it up, you won’t be disappointed.

5 stars = I freaking LOVED this book!!!
By Angela S Goodrich
I don’t read a lot of romances featuring ghosts, not sure why, but I just don’t. Having recently read a book co-authored by Vaughn, I decided to give The Winter Spirit a try to see if I enjoyed the author’s solo writing efforts as well. I am so very glad that I did because I thoroughly enjoyed Nate and Gabriel’s unlikely romance.
The book opens with Nate being excited and nervous about the impending arrival of a guest to his B&B. A guest who was once a very important person in his life – his best friend and childhood crush, Owen. Because he wants everything perfect for their reunion after so many years, he warns his resident ghost to behave. Yep, you read that right, the B&B is haunted and Gabriel has been playing pranks on Nate for years. Once Nate’s excitement about Owen’s arrival is apparent, Nate is encouraged by both Gabriel and Elisa (his employee) to go for it. All seems to be going well until Owen comes on WAY too strong and Nate learns that his childhood best friend didn’t hold their friendship as close as he did. At this point, I really wondered where the author was taking the story because the potential romance between Nate and Owen came to a screeching halt. And then… Nate’s curiosity about Gabriel’s death had him looking into Gabriel’s life and becoming more interested in his spirited companion. Nate’s attention and Gabriel’s unexpected solidification meant that the two men could get to know one another better, both in friendship and physically. But as the anniversary of Gabriel’s death nears, Nate is worried that the things Gabriel aren’t telling him could cause more heartache for the both of them. However, Nate chooses to embrace the mindset of “It’s better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all,” and he sets out to give Gabriel his all in case these few days will be all they ever have.
I really, really liked how the romance between Nate and Gabriel played out. Owen’s presence in the story didn’t make Gabriel’s solidification simply a convenience for Nate to take advantage of. Rather Owen served as a bit of a wake-up call for Nate of what he did and didn’t want in a lover. It also gave him a chance to see Gabriel more as a person than as the annoying prank-playing spirit he had been. Nate got to know the man that Gabriel was and is. I enjoyed watching Nate “wake up” to Gabriel’s presence and becoming attuned to how the man affected him. I was almost as distraught as Nate when their time was cut short and likely would have cried along with him had I not been reading at work. I loved how Vaughn ended The Winter Spirit, giving both men a happy ending. I look forward to checking out more of the author’s work.
I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
