So bad. Couldn't even finish it

This book was so hard to get into. It is poorly written and a ridiculous premise. I hate how weak the main character is and the twin brothers are basically assaulting her and taking advantage. She's an idiot for letting them do that to her. And the way Cole speaks to her is just ridiculous. He barely knows her and wants to cherish her all of a sudden? Such a bad book.

SPOILER: The twins were jerks in the worst way. They treated the female lead (who had major self-esteem issues) with such blatant disrespect that I was pissed off every time one of them conversed with her. I wish it had been solely about the oldest stepbrother Cole.

Great Resource for A Beginning Teacher

I got this book to help me out with my field experience in first grade and I love it! There is a wide range of different topics and activities, so it is perfect for someone who is just starting out in teaching. There was a wide range of activities for different types of learners- songs, games, activities, reproducibles. I can't wait to try these out in a year or two when I have my own classroom!

Good book

The author has spent a lot of time reviewing the research part of the exam. This book was good for me in two important ways:

1. It provides a useful outline of all the standards (with brief summaries of contents) to review and be familiar with before sitting the exam.

2. She concludes that the way the CPA exam search engine returns search results (especially for advanced searches) is not great due to some peculiarities and you can lose a lot of time trying to figure out where the data is that you need.

Regarding point #2, it's such an important conclusion based on her research, I think I would have put the conclusion towards the beginning of the book so it was clear why we should focus on knowing our way around the standards so well.

The author recommends relying more on the Table of Contents in the CPA exam infobase. Her book shows you how to do that and also has some other useful tips on exam functionality.

I'm happy I got this book and would recommend it.

If you want to over-study

Professor Feller does a very good job in explaining the details of FARS system.
Just like the reviewers before me, I truly felt that she was trying to help, make things easier for CPA students.

That being said, this book won't be necessary unless you want to over-study yourself with crazy amounts of authoritative literature. This book does a great job in detailing out which topics you should focus on & why, but the bottom line is that you have to get your hands on either hard copy of FARS CD and thoroughly study them.

I for one do not think that I should be taking notes on bunch different ARB or FAS article numbers and memorize which topic is being discussed in each of them. The only beneficial part of this book for me was at the very end, where she talks about what types of questions would most likely be on the exam & how to look for them through search engine.

In sum, if you are trying to get the quick tips on how to 'effectively' save your time & search for the right articles on the CPA exam, consider getting this book - but that is paying over $20 for mere 30 pages of information. Otherwise, you can probably pass.

Studying ridiculous amounts of articles won't prove your worthwhile as research portion is relative small on CPA exam and you can find the most articles with good search technique, not by reading how to study & memorize all of them.

With all the CPA review materials out there, I haven't found ANY that do a very good job explaining the research part of the exam. This book is excellent. I know the research part isn't a large percentage of your exam grade....but a few points here and there can make a huge difference...believe me. I just received a 74 on one exam part recently. I think this book will add at least a few points to my score. And for only about 20 bucks.

The book is intended for practicing engineers, and the introduction notes that the ideal reader will be an "M.S.-level engineer." Consequently, treatment of subjects is highly technical and emphasizes mathematical explanations to an extent that it might be of limited use to novices.
The first section provides a detailed overview of the fundamentals of structural engineering. Following this introductory section are eight chapters covering special types of structures, and thirteen chapters on special topics in structural engineering. All chapters contain a brief glossary of key concepts discussed within the chapter, an extensive bibliography, suggested readings, and a list of relevant codes and standards where applicable.

Very Comprehensive, and Especially Valuable for Semi-Rigid Jointed Structures

This single volume includes chapters on topics as diverse as timber engineering, tunnel construction, fire engineering, bridges of all types, glass structures, fiber-reinforced polymer composites, and much more.

One exceptionally-helpful chapter in this book, in my opinion, is Chapter 23, on semirigid frame structures. Author Xu explains the concept of semirigid joints, summarizes the state-of-the-art knowledge in the field, and provides worked examples of problems involving semirigid-fixed beams and braced frames. The worked examples are especially helpful in that they each show the solution in a very step-by-step manner.

These enjoyable stories from the oral traditions of indigenous cultures were chosen by Elder, coeditor of The Norton Book of Nature Writing (LJ 3/1/90), and Berkeley English professor Wong as a complement to Western nature writing. Unlike the nature essay, these stories reflect not so much the environmental consciousness of solitary writers as the close, even mysterious, connection between tribal human communities and their homeplaces and native animals and plants. The stories in anthology are divided into three categories-tales of origins, including creation stories; animal tales and tales of human/animal transformations; and trickster tales. In a final section, contemporary writers discuss how the myths and legends of their ancestral traditions might contribute toward defining an ecologically sustainable and imaginatively nourishing way of relating to nature for modern humanity. Appropriate for folklore, multiculture, and literature collections, this is a sound purchase for most libraries.

An unfocused and pointless environmentalist anthology of stories from oral traditions. Elder (English and Environmental Studies/Middlebury College; Following the Brush, 1993) and Wong (English/Berkeley; Sending My Heart Across the Years, not reviewed) set out to collect stories of nature from indigenous peoples around the globe. Their aim is to help readers enlarge their ``ethical circle'' by seeing nature as something to which they have an immediate and tangible connection. Their task is complicated because the storytellers themselves don't distinguish ``nature stories'' from other stories. Similar problems are set forth but never properly addressed in the brief introduction. Stories in the volume are grouped under four rubrics. Under ``Origins'' are creation tales: the Mohawk story of diving creatures who bring mud up from the water's bottom to create a dry place for the first woman to rest; the Tahitian story of Tangaroa, who literally cannibalizes his own body to create the world; and others. ``Animal Tales and Transformations'' includes stories, often didactic, in which humans turn into animals and vice versa. ``Tricksters'' includes stories of the now familiar Coyote, Raven of the Pacific Northwest, and Anansi of Africa and the Caribbean, among others. The final section, ``Tales to Live By,'' offers nonfiction pieces by notables, including Leslie Silko, Rigoberta Menchu, and N. Scott Momaday. There are entries from places as diverse as Finland, India, and Korea, and because of a porous definition of ``indigenous,'' English folk tales (``The Rollright Stones'') and African-American characters (Brer Rabbit and Terrapin) are also included. All stories have appeared in print elsewhere before, and an ``Acknowledgements'' section at the end gives sources. Useless to serious students and confusing to the popular audience for which it is intended, the book bears a passing resemblance to Story Earth by the Inter Press Service, from which several of the pieces in the final section are drawn. -- Copyright �1994, Kirkus Associates, LP.
